Parish Legislation

Barbed Wire
|
|
|
This must be of a height of at least 6 feet from the road surface when it borders a public place
|
|
|
|
Bornements or Permits
|
|
|
A Bornement, (change of alignment) is required in respect of any building work within 9 metres from any public road. Application must be made in writing to the Constables. The fee is £15.

|
|
Cisterns, Wells and Boiler Pits
|
|
|
These must be covered or fenced in such a manner as to prevent any person from falling in accidently.
|
|
|
Quarries
|
|
|
These must be adequately protected by private land or fenced to ensure they are not a danger to the public. They are checked by the Constables who then report on their state to the Royal Court.

|
|
Dog Tax
|
|
|
The sum of £5 is payable in January of each year in respect of all dogs with the exception of dogs for blind and deaf persons
|

|
Hedges
|
|
|
Hedges bordering a public road must be cut back between the 1st and 15th June and between the 15th and 30th September each year, so they do not overhang a road below the height of 12 ft. Hedges should be cut in declivity, (sloping away from the road). By law all cuttings must be cleared immediately.

Streams
|
|
|
Most streams in the island are inspected twice a year after the 15th June and after the 30th September. Owners must therefore ensure that streams are free from overgrown vegetation and silt to enable the water to run freely.
