I had not been off road in over 20 years
apart from a few excursions (unintentional) on some of the trips I have done
while touring around Europe and Scandinavia
I found out about B&DMCC from a shop
I had been in and happened to get chatting about wanting to go off road
again.
The guy in the shop gave me the number
of Dennis Fleet the club secretary. I gave him a ring and he sent me some
details.
I had an old XT250 which I picked up
cheap to run around on for the winter, only problem was I had stopped riding my
other bike because I enjoyed the XT so much.
On the trip to Shaddoxhurst I was
concerned that I would not have the right bike, would not be able to keep up
and that I would not get on the with others.
No problem, first bike out of the first
van to turn up an 'XT250' and the owner was chatty. The rest that turned up all
had similar bikes, some newish, some old, all around 250cc.
Dennis and Mike, the 2 who make the
green laning happen were both chatty and seemed easy to get on with.
Mike leads and Dennis follows up the
rear to help keep the group together. Dennis suggested that I go as fast or
slow as I wanted, I was sure it was going to be too slow, But as it worked out
I seemed to keep up, even if it was because they waited.
Do not really remember much about the
countryside or what the ride was like I just kept my eyes on the patch in front
of the bike and tried to keep it upright.
There was a good pub lunch that I do
remember and a good bunch of blokes that were easy to get on with.
All in all a good day for me, except for
the puncture a few miles from the car park, although with a bit of help that
was sorted and on the way home I was planning my next trip out greenlaning with
the B&DMCC.
