Short Term Goal:
To alleviate congestion at the Paul school facility through any single or combination of remedies listed below,
a) Adding classrooms to the existing structure without expansion beyond the current footprint
b) Restructuring of the current classroom schedules and locations
c) Purchase or lease Modular classrooms
Short Term Results:
** A Motion at the April 24th of the School Building Committee Meeting to recommend to the school board to purchase or lease one (1) modular unit with two classrooms and the administration would reconfigure the classroom layout was passed unanimously.
** At the School Board Meeting on May 16th, the School Board voted to for the purchase of two modular units (4 classrooms).
** After the Budget Committee review of the School Building Committee recommendation, the Budget Committee also recommended the purchase of one modular unit.
** Again at the June 19th School Board Meeting and after the review of the Budget Committee's recommendation for a single unit, the School Board again voted for the purchase of two modular units (4 classrooms) against the recommendation of both the School Building Committee and the Budget Committee.
** During the months of June and July, the School Board finalized the purchase of the modular units and their installation was performed (without following the required BID process) and were ready for the opening of school.
** During the summer months the School board finalized the purchase and installation of the new modulars. There were several concerns brought forth about the process of installation and location by the building committee, Town Planner and the Fire Marshall, the Modulars are currently being used.
Long Term Goals:
To investigate all options for the long term educational facilities of the Wakefield School District including but not limited to:
A.) An Addition to the Paul School
B.) Building a separate K-3 Facility
C.) Building a Middle School ( 6-8 )
D.) Building a Middle School / High School
E.) Selling the Paul School and building a new K - 8 Facility
F.) Joining Another School District (GWRSD)
During the School Building Committee Meeting on 11/27/07 the School Building Committee discussed the options and agreed to focus on the following three options:
A.) An Addition to the Paul School
B.) Building a Middle School ( 6-8 )
C.) Joining Another School District (GWRSD)
During the School Building Committee Meeting on 6/24/08 the School Building Committee discussed the progress that it has make over the last several month.
As a result, the Committee has decided to present to the School Board the direction they feel should be taken as a long term objective. That direction is the following:
